CORNUCOPIA is a small family run business producing historical/period costume of a quality which surpasses that of average theatrical quality costume. We design most of the costumes and draft most of the patterns ourselves, giving us the flexibility to adapt any of our costumes to the customers' requirements, or indeed totally custom make a costume to individual specifications. We produce costumes covering a wide price range to suit all pockets, from costumes for school trips for cost conscious parents to the more expensive costumes for collectors and re-enactors. But what we can guarantee, is that from the cheapest costume to the most expensive elaborate costumes, each one is made with the same care and attention to detail.

We aim to give the best possible quality for the best possible price, with as much authenticity as possible. We never use zips or Velcro in historical/period costume, as this detracts from the authenticity of the costume, although if the costume is needed for a quick change during a theatrical production, we can do so on request. All internal seams are overlocked, both for neatness and strength, but no overlocking is ever seen from the outside on our costumes. We believe that it is important that if a child is wearing a costume for a school trip as part of their education, then it needs to be as accurate as it possibly can be whilst still being affordable. Although some concessions have to be made with the fabrics used, as using totally authentic fabrics would make the price of school childrens' costumes prohibitive, zips, Velcro and other modern additions are banished.

If you are a re-enactor and need total authenticity, we offer a custom made service. We can make costumes that are completely hand stitched or main seams machine stitched and then hand finished. Obviously the amount of time and work involved would be reflected in the price, and you would need to contact us for a quote. Once a price is agreed, we can then list the costume on eBay for you.

We work from within an old Victorian cotton mill, which seems very appropriate, as a lot of our Victorian costumes are made from the same fabric that would once have been woven on the very spot that our costumes are made. We feel this adds a touch of history to a newly made costume.
